The EJOT TSSD® Aero "Thermischer Stoffschlussdom“ (thermal adhesive bonding boss)

The EJOT TSSD® ("Thermischer Stoffschlussdom" = thermal adhesive bonding boss) product and corresponding joining process have been developed with the objective to join components of which one (preferably the top layer) is made of fibre-reinforced plastics. The process is suitable for sandwich elements with honeycomb and foam core structures (with different top layers) as well as for CFRP and GFRP materials. During the joining process, the plastic boss (made of thermoplastic) is installed into the plastic component with a certain rotation speed and axial load. The EJOT TSSD® Aero was developed on the basis of the TSSD® standard, but with the target of achieving aerospace conformance in terms of strength and material properties.

EJOT TSSD® Aero with imperial threaded insert

This TSSD® version features a metal threaded insert which is embedded in a polymer matrix.
The threaded insert is similar to typical NAS potting inserts. Screw locking properties are, if required, designed according to NASM25027. This TSSD® allows weight savings of up to 25% per connection compared to conventional potted inserts.

EJOT TSSD® Aero as insert for direct fastening

The full-plastic version of the TSSD® Aero is recommended for further cost and weight savings. Compared to conventional potted inserts, this TSSD® achieves weight savings of up to 65%. When using the EJOT EVO PT® (direct fastening), reliable fastening values are achieved and the screw connection can be calculated.

FST-approved polymer materials

The materials used for the TSSD® Aero meet aerospace standards with regard to burning behaviour (FST). Both ABD0031 and CS/FAR 25.853 are applied here.

Full automation of the insert process

The installation process of the TSSD® can be fully automated and is compatible with the latest digitalised production systems. Flexible production units and feeding systems minimize the need for personnel while also providing comprehensive process data documentation for process validation and quality assurance.
