Thinking sustainably
The path to climate neutrality by 2035
With the Sustainability Roadmap, EJOT describes the path to climate neutrality. EJOT has set itself the goal of being climate-neutral in all three scopes by 2035, so that the Goals are compatible with the 1.5 degree target set in the Paris Agreement.
Our annual Corporate Carbon Footprint (CCF) is the Basis for this. We calculate our emissions worldwide using the Greenhouse Gas Protocol. Based on the annual emissions, a development forecast for the CO 2 e-reducing measures is created, considering economic growth. This is how EJOT ensures that the target and measure definitions are considered in all financial decision-making processes and approved by top management.Through our activities, we have already been able to save Scope 1 and 2 emissions compared to the base year 2020. Scope 3 emissions include upstream and downstream emissions and are now the strategic focus because they Account for over 80 % of total emissions. In this area, we work in partnership with our suppliers to provide products with reduced CO 2 e. We have defined a three-milestone System to achieve our goals. At the end of each milestone period, the possible achievement of objectives is reviewed and, if necessary, countermeasures are taken.
Sustainibility projects
In recent years, we have implemented several specific projects to advance our sustainability goals. With the introduction of an employee share ownership scheme, we are giving our colleagues worldwide the opportunity to contribute their own ideas for reducing CO₂e. Successful suggestions are rewarded with profit participation rights, and the funds are invested in projects such as PV systems, heat pumps, etc.
We use the Greenhouse Gas International tool to record and manage our emissions. This enables us to systematically analyse our emissions according to the three scopes of the international standard.
In product development, we are working on two projects, among others: one deals with the use of recycled materials, the other with bio-based plastics made from sugar cane. We are currently testing both approaches for practical suitability and quality.
From 2030, we will source all our electricity from renewable sources worldwide. One example is our 2,000 kWp plant in Turkey. In France, we have also launched an energy partnership project with local companies and the municipality of Villè.
Product-specific emission calculations at EJOT
The transparent presentation of the environmental impact of our products is a central component of our sustainability strategy. EJOT offers product-specific emission calculations to make the carbon footprint of our solutions traceable throughout their life cycle.
