EJOT receives the award „Roswith-Oerter-Arbeitnehmerpreis” of the CDA

The conceptions of a family-friendly business are very different.

While one might imagine financial endowments, the next is concerned with the working atmosphere, a good cooperation and the possibility to be successful in the job in addition to an active family life.

That this actually works at EJOT is probably the reason for the award of the Roswith-Oerter-Arbeitnehmerpreis of the Christlich Demokratische Arbeitnehmerschaft (Christian Democratic Workforce). The prize is named after Roswith Oerter, who was president of the CDA Siegerland Wittgenstein for many years and who was especially eager to regard the principles of a social market economy as a two-way street.

This means that the social environment of the employee has to be taken care of and he should not be in danger to become a victim of solely economical considerations of his company.

The price was supposed to be awarded by the NRW Minister for Economic Affairs Christa Thoben, but because of a coalition round about the coal output subsidies, convened on short notice, she was not able to attend. Instead Hartmut Schauerte handed over the award. Hartmut Schauerte is a member of the German Bundestag and Parliamentary State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Economics. According to the state secretary: “mid-sized companies know what their real assets are: the knowledge and the motivation of their employees”. The current German upturn and success on the world markets is due to the innovative power of the businesses and the willingness of the workforce to work longer hours. Mid-sized companies also tend to, if possible, stay at their “location of origin”.

District Administrator Paul Breuer as well as the various officials of CDA and CDU commended EJOT in their speeches. Especially praised was the commitment of our company in the field of vocational and continued training of the employees. The efforts made for the retirement provisions with the SENECA programme were also recognized.

In his acceptance speech Christian F. Kocherscheidt talked about the pragmatic background of all of these measures. Christian F. Kocherscheidt: „The company employs a lot of young women in the internal sales department since they have shown to be more qualified than their male counterparts. The contact to these employees is kept in case of a maternity leave out of self-interest for EJOT. If these young mothers are offered to work as holiday replacements, EJOT saves the time and money to train temporary staff that usually lacks the necessary product know-how.”

The attribute „family friendliness“ has the following facets in our opinion:

EJOT has the objective to:

  • tie the employees on maternity leave closer to the company
  • make the reintegration into employment faster and more efficient
  • provide social services
  • create work space and employment under the aspect of “healthy ageing”
  • secure a healthy integrative management
  • accommodate the demographic development of the employees

If the headlines of the local news then read “family friendliness pays off”, that is surely correct. What advantages does EJOT gain from this family friendliness:

  • Utilisation of existing professional potential
  • Increased employee attachement
  • Increased attractiveness as an employer
  • Female employees can concentrate on their productive duties
  • Further optimisation of the leadership behaviour
  • Reduced absences from work

That it is also important to us to thank the employees who have been with us for 10, 25 or 40 years with a present and a bouquet of flowers is a matter of course for the shareholders and the management. And it is a matter of course, isn’t it"
